Our Mission

Soul Bone℠ intersects writing with creative process, spirituality, social justice, and healing in tiny, winged courses that lift the spirit.
We host a literary center and literary festival and talk about everything and anything in our online spaces: creative process, spirituality, inclusivity, craft, healing, climate and ecology, social justice, mysticism. We encourage messy creative exploration and experimentation; use spirituality, meditation, yoga, sound, and self-care as tools to open up the creative imagination; draw on writing as a healing modality; and aim to create an authentically diverse and inclusive community. We promote the kind of writing and creative work that comes from duende, the unspeakable energies that arise from the soles of our feet and run through our spines, that make us feel physically as if the tops of our heads were taken off when we read or write, that connect heart and mind and senses, marrying body and spirit, that involve speaking out against in justice, that spark the mystical soul and give life to our writing, yet that also include death and shadow. We keep all of our workshops and classes as affordable as possible. Many are free or are discounted with coupons and scholarship options. Please join us!

MIU MFA Residency Classes & Workshops (Online)
August 21 - September 3, 2023
The Fall ‘23 MIU MFA Residency is a showcase of our MIU MFA in Creative Writing, an online, 2-year program. We recently celebrated our first graduates, and they will be offering readings and master classes or generative workshops during our next residency festival. We will also showcase our English department faculty, and our MFA faculty and mentors. All events will be free and open to the public.
Our MFA residency weeks run from August 21 - September 3, 2023. We will update information in July so you can register for the events of your choice via Eventbrite.
